(Zaman Al Wasl)- Free Syrian Army on Friday thwarted an attack carried out by the Iranian revolutionary guards and its allied Shiite militias on two towns in Syrian south, Zaman al-Wasl reporter said.
The First Army rebel group, that operates under the Southern Front command, has posted online photos showing slain Shiite militants who were killed in the battles near al-Sultaneh and al-Habbariya villages in Quneitra province.
The Southern Front said its rebels had ambushed the Shiite rebels near al-Sultaneh village, leaving dozens killed and wounded.
Reports said that Iranian troops backed by Hezbollah fighters have carried on, and for the first time, full battles against rebels without any participation from the Syrian regime army. Suleimani wants to eliminate FSA from the south, activists said.
Most rebels of Daraa, who are fighting to topple Assad, belong to the Southern Front, which includes some 30,000 fighters from more than 55 mainstream opposition groups operating from the Jordanian border to the outskirts of Damascus and the Golan Heights.
The southern rebels have received aid including what they describe as small amounts of military support through an operations room based in Jordan, a staunch U.S. ally determined to keep its Syrian frontier safe from jihadists, according to Reuters.
In relevant context, al-Qaeda’s Syria wing Nusra Front said mourned its senior military commander in Daraa, Abu Omar Mukhtar, who was killed by regime forces in the northern countryside.
Syria's conflict, now in its fourth year, has killed more than 220,000 people and caused millions to flee.
