Life conditions of people under siege in Eastern Ghouta suburbs near Damascus have become extremely difficult as most of essential services and needs are rare or not available, Medicine and treatment have been significantly affected by the difficult situation of the blockade.
A doctor told a painful story he witnessed during his work in the under-siege Eastern Ghouta, where they operated a young man who completely lost his lower mandible as a result of an explosion. Doctors worked for hours trying to restore as much as possible of his face, however sadly he passed away.
The shocking part of the story was when indirectly doctors find out a though bout the possibility to re-open the wound to take off the expensive plate they used to fix his bones together, as providing medicine was difficult in general, and special equipments are even harder to get.
“We reluctantly re-opened the wound we had sewed before and took off the plate, but hoping that our good intention to benefit another patient would justify what we had done” doctor Abo Khalil explained.
