Mona Ghanem: Orient TV incites sectarian congestion, Khoja-Hussein agreement unprecedented

(By Abdullah Al Ghadawi; Translation by Yusra Ahmed)

Mona Ghanem, deputy head of the Building the Syrian State (BSS) party, accused Orient TV Channel of fabricating her words, which did nothing more than exacerbating sectarian congestion among Syrians.

Ghanem admitted that Orient TV’s record for her and Louay Hussein was genuine, but she claimed that it was recorded without their permission and was cut into in order to make the version it was broadcasted on the TV to defame “Building the Syrian State”

Ghanem wondered what benefits Orient TV got by broadcasting the record, she saw that record did not benefit the revolution or Syrian people, as it increased the sectarian congestion among them. She appealed to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to stop Orient TV from spreading its sectarian incitement.

The Head Deputy confirmed that the record was not an interview or even a mutual discussion. “it was clear from the record that we were fed up with the journalist because he wanted to make an interview with us and we refused, definitely I meant to ridicule when I mentioned that Basel al-Assad was a martyr as well, a man died of car accident, how can be a martyr”. She mentioned that she was detained in Syria long time ago because she criticized naming Basel as a martyr.

Ghanem confirmed that she had no negative attitude toward the revolution, otherwise, she would appear on a regime-loyal TV channel like Sama or others, not on Orient TV. “Sectarianism harm the revolution, how can we attract and convince regime-loyalists to join the revolution with that provoking speech and attitude.”

Ghanem confirmed that changes inside blocs closed to Syrian regime had been happening, but they need reassurance, and what was mentioned in the joint press conference of Louay Hussein and Khalid Khoja, the President of National Coalition should be considered unprecedented agreement, but unfortunately it was ignored and wasted with the flag’s issue. “The current Syrian flag presents Syria not the regime.”

In regard to accusation that “Building the Syrian State” is regime-made opposition, she said that matter was not important for them, as their aim to change the dictating Syrian regime and to prevent Syria from becoming a country of militias. “I am outside Syria now and I was told if I returned I would be put in prison and Louay Hussein as well”

Ghanem confirmed that attempts to unite the revolution would keep going on, and the record Orient TV broadcasted was not the first crisis the opposition faced. “It is time to put aside the vindictive acts and to do what is important and useful to the country”
