Syria economy minister weds television star

Syria’s economy minister was married Saturday to a leading television actress, media reports said.

Humam al-Jazairy wed Dima Qandalaft and the two held a relatively low-key wedding party at a Damascus hotel, with a small number of family members and Qandalaft’s acting colleagues on hand.

Jazairy studied at Damascus University before receiving a doctorate from a university in Britain. He was also placed on a list of European Union sanctions last August, after the EU determined that he and other government officials should be held partly responsible for the government’s violent response to the popular uprising.
