Southern Front Rebels to form 'Fatah Amry': source

A well-informed source told Zaman al-Wasl that key rebel groups operating in the Syrian south are planning to form their own version of Fatah Army, the powerful alliance north Syria that took full control of Idlib province in the last two months.

The alliance will include Nusra Front, Ahrar al-Sham movement, Fatah al-Sham, al-Furqan Brigades and the consultations are underway to join Free Syrian Army (FSA).

Army of Fatah, a reference to the conquests that spread Islam across the Middle East from the seventh century.

The southern region near the border with Jordan and Israel is one of the areas where insurgents have inflicted significant defeats on Assad in the last three months, notably by capturing the Nasib border crossing with Jordan on April 1.

More than 230,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government demonstrations that were met with a regime crackdown.
