A document published in WikiLeaks among thousands of Saudi diplomatic files, showed that a British member in the parliament, known of his support to Israel, had visited Basher al-Assad many times and discussed the situation in Syria and Palestine.
The document intended to describe the Parliament’s members who won in 2010 election in Britain, mentioned that Brooks Newmark was Jewish and born in America in 1958 but have lived in Britain since he was 9 years old.
The document mentioned that Newmark was a member of “Israel’s Friends” of the Conservative party, and he visited al-Assad, but no information if that visit was agreed by the conservative party.
Newmark won his seat in the British Parliament in 2005, and kept it in 2010’s election, however, he face sexual scandal before 2015’s election, forced him to resign from his position as a Minister of Civil Community and declined going through election.
In 2014, a British newspaper published photos of Newmark which he sent to a journalist disguised as a woman, via social media. Afterward, the British newspapers published many scandalous photos and conversations, and mentioned that he was married and a father of five.
Newmark met al-Assad many times, media mentioned two of them, the first one was mentioned in the Syrian media was in 2008, and the too short news mentioned that it aimed to discuss the situation in Palestine, with no mentioning to Newmark’s political party, either Conservatives or Labors .
In 2011, amid the harsh and cruel suppression to Syrian people, Newmark visited al-Assad, which put the British Minister of Foreign Affairs, William Hague under great criticism, but he claimed that Newmark carried a message to al-Assad ordering him to stop violence and suppressing people. But newspapers suspected that explanation for a -3-hour meeting, especially with the intimate concepts shown in photos for al-Assad and Newmark drinking tea.
Later, Hague confessed that Newmark had visited Syria many times on his personal expenses, but he confirmed his knowledge of those visits in advance.
In 2013, Newmark declared in an article he wrote that he visited Syria first time in 2006, and visits continued over 5 years, and most of them were closed meetings, where many subjects were discussed. He mentioned that he met Asma al-Assad and he would not forget the exceptional conversation he had with her.
