A chief of staff source denied to Zaman
Alwasl nominating the former Brigadier General of the Syrian Republican Guard,
Manaf Tlass to head the new opposition National Army.
Recently,
Mr. Ahmed Jarba, leader of the main stream opposition, stated about the common
wish to form a national army which can unify all efforts and the scattered
armed groups under one banner. Today, the cyber media activists have circulated
that the son of ex-defense minister Mustafa Tlass will be the general commander
of the new army.
Most
of the revolutionary activist and coordination are against the spoiled boy as
they describe him.
The
military source has condemned all rumors which try to defame the chief of joint
staff and to undermine the noble work of the Free Syrian Army.
Tlass
was a close friend of Basil Assad, Hafez Assad's eldest son and heir apparent
until his death in a 1994 car accident. He later became close to Bashar Assad,
having attended military college with Assad, Bashar Assad regarded the Tlass
brothers as peers and friends.
