Assad barrel bombs kill 37 people, including 15 children, in Aleppo and Idlib

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime air strikes on Thursday have killed 37 people, including 15 children, and wounded dozens across the rebel-held areas of Aleppo and Idlib, the Syrian Network for Human Rights said.

The regime army helicopters dropped barrel bombs on the towns of Ma’aret Misreen, Orm al Jouz and al Khwain in Idlib countryside, killing 25 civilians, including 11 children, SNHR reported.

Also, 6 victims, including 4 children, have lost their lives in barrel bomb attacks on Aran village in Aleppo countryside and 6 others killed in Jub al Qubba suburb.

The killing machine of Bashar al-Assad air force was at the eve of Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.

Death toll of Thursday throughout Syria topped 53, according to the monitoring group documentation.

Separately, Islamic State fighters on Thursday have pressed more advances in the eastern countryside of Homs, taking control of a military base and two villages near T-4 air base, activists and supporters of the hardline group said.

Conflicting reports said ISIS stormed the fences of the strategic military airport, the clashes are underway with Syrian regime forces, activists said after seizing an artillery battalion affiliated to T-4 base.

ISIS took control of al-Bardeh and Marhatan villages, 15 km (10 miles) from the airport.

Meanwhile, ISIS has blown up a gas pipeline near Furqlus town east Homs, activists said.

State-run media mourned M. General Mohsen Makhlouf, the commander of the powerful 11th Division, who had been killed by ISIS in T-4 battles.

Syria's conflict began in March 2011 as popular protests against four decades of Assad family rule but changed into armed insurgency under a security force crackdown.
