Dr. Jawad Abo Hatab responsible for the medical file in the Syrian National Coalition for revolutionary Forces and opposition has declined working in the Health committee as a result of what has been happening in the 10th vaccination campaign for Syrian children.
Dr. Abo Hatab revealed in his letter to the coalitions head, Zaman al-Wasl obtained a copy of, that Assistance Coordination Unit ACU had excluded the Ministry of Health from its meetings. He considered that a sign of compromising for the organizations participating in the vaccination campaign which has not happened before in any country except Afghanistan.
Dr. Abo Hatab mentioned that vaccination campaigns the ACU manages are restricted to polio only which is given in a form of drops given by mouth, however, according to the responsible for the medical file vaccinations vaccination programme should include at least measles, polio, diphtheria , tetanus, however seven essential vaccinations are better to be given.
Last year, deaths of 20 children happened during measles vaccination campaign, as a result of mistake in storing vaccination and replacing by mistake the diluting solution with a medication used in anesthesia to stop breathing. The incident ended in compensating families of dead children and sacking many responsible for vaccination campaign in the interim government.
