Assad army, PYD tighten siege on ISIS south of Hasaka: activists

Syrian regime forces backed by Kurdish Democratic Union militia have tightened the siege on ISIS militants in the southern neighborhoods of Hasaka city northeast Syria, activists told Zaman al-Wasl on Sunday.

Activist  Mohamed al-Khalaf, based in Hasaka, said PYD fighters were regime’s  upper-hand in battles against ISIS since the scattered forces of Bashar al-Assad have been facing humiliating defeats in the last few months to the favor of rebels and the hardline Sunni group.

Khalaf said PYD fighters backed by the U.S.-led air strikes had launched a major offensive on ISIS in Haskak this week, making gains and pressing hard to cut a supply route to the southern district, an ISIS stronghold.

PYD took number of small villages and suburbs next-door to Kasaka, Khalaf added.

In relevant development, activists and human rights activists accused Kurdish militias of forced displacement for Arab tribes live in the villages of al-Alya, al-Salihiya, al-Wastah, al-Dhabib, Jahfat al-Dhabib, Om Hajara, al-Mabrouka,and Jalib al-Gha in the southwest of Ras al-Ayn city.

Most of people, who belong to Bu Hassan tribe, have fled to Raqqa, according to activist Abdul Azizi Khalifa.

 Malaz al-Yousef, media activist, said more than 100,000 people have fled their homes in Hasaka due to ISIS fight.
 
Meanwhile, Syrian air force has extends its aerial campaign during  Eid al-Fitr, the Muslim holiday marking the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. At least 157 people, including 39 children, have been killed in the holy holiday, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights.

Syria's conflict began in March 2011 as popular protests against four decades of Assad family rule but changed into armed insurgency under a security force crackdown.

Meanwhile, More than 230,000 people killed and over 12 million forced to flee their homes. (Editing by Jamal Ibrahim)
