Huge fire destroys 10,000 acres of forest in Latakia

 A huge fire broke out in natural forest of Syrian coastal area has destroyed more than 10,000 acres, locals said on Sunday as battles between rebels and regime army flare up again.

Local activists said the blase was due to the regime's aerial bombardment on rebel-held Turkmen and al-Akrad mountains in Latakia province, the hometown of Bashar al-Assad hometown.

More than 10,000 acres have been destroyed including farms of 15 Alawite villages.

Firefighters and locals were able to contain the blaze, but continue working to put it out completely and prevent it from flaring up again.

In relevant incident, 30,000 acres of natural forest had been destroyed in the western countryside of Homs province last Friday.
