A Russian officer has been killed on Thursday in a missile attack carried out by Islam Army on the Syrian coastal city of Latakia that is a bastion of President Bashar al-Assad, rebel source told Zaman al-Wasl.
The officer was killed in Islam Army's attack on Slinfa resort near Assad's summer palace, Khaled Abu al-Walid, said.
Russia, Assad's key ally, has supplied Syrian army by military experts and advisers.
In simultaneous attack on Latakia city, at least two people were killed when rockets hit Latakia on Thursday, state media said.
The city has largely been spared the violence of the more than four-year Syrian civil war, which has killed a quarter of a million people.
The rocket attacks came days after insurgents gained ground in the Sahl al-Ghab plain east of Latakia province.
