NGOs: Syrian women in male prison being mistreated worse than the men

Damascus- Syrian Association for Human Rights expressed its deep concern about    the deteriorating conditions of the women detainees belonging to revolutionary movements in the political wing of Adra prison, 30 KM north-east Damascus, who suffer from force majeure and inhuman treatment lacks the minimum requirements, in accordance with the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners issued by the United Nations.

 The association said in a statement, based on testimonies of Syrian Activists  women, about 200 women currently in the political section chambers of   ('Adra prison) who are suffering mainly from skin diseases and respiratory a result of lack of health care and the deliberate medical neglect, especially as some of them badly in need of treatment as a result of complications subjected to torture prints the period of investigation.

 The Syrian Association for the Defense of Human Rights condemns "in the strongest terms" This policy is punitive and retaliatory collide with all international conventions and treaties on human rights and in particular the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners issued by the United Nations.

 The mission of International Red Cross in Damascus has demanded for urgent action to visit the political section of the Damascus Central Prison and stand on the case of prisoners deteriorating there, as demanded by the Association institutions the International Community to assume its responsibilities towards what is going on, and to exert all efforts that will stop these crimes that take place on a daily basis against detainees.
