Syrian rockets hit northern Bekaa Valley in Lebanon

Four rockets fired from Syria slammed into the northern Bekaa Valley Sunday, terrifying residents and causing them to remain in their homes.

Three rockets fell on the city of Hermel, landing in the playground of a closed school and in the neighborhood of Ras al-Mal. The damage was substantial but no casualties were reported.

The fourth rocket exploded on the outskirts of the border village Al-Qaa. No casualties were reported there either.

Lebanon has suffered a series of rocket salvos in recent months fired by Syrian rebels, targeting Hezbollah strongholds in the Bekaa Valley.

Syrian opposition groups have threatened to attack Hezbollah’s bastions in the Bekaa region in retribution for the party’s military intervention in Syria.

Hezbollah fighters are aiding forces loyal to Syrian President Bashar Assad in the war against armed rebel groups seeking to topple the regime.
