ISIS killed Nusra Front's senior commander in Daraa: statement

The hardline Islamic State group, in statement dated on Wednesday, said it had killed a senior commander in the al-Qaeda-linked group Nusra Front last Monday in southern city of Daraa.

Ahmed Mohamed al-Falouji, Nusra's security official in Daraa, was assassinated by ISIS fighters who broke into a field hospital where he was receiving a treatment and shot him dead, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

Last week, another Nusra Front's senior commander in Maaret al-Nouman was escaped another explosive.

Also in Daraa, Saber Safar, the commander of First Army, FSA unit, was escaped an assassination attempt on Saturday.

Activists and rebels groups have accused Islamic State and Syrian regime of  carrying out a serial killing policy against senior commanders.

The key rebel group Ahrar al-Sham movement has also been under fire amid a mounting number of senior fighters killed by unidentified groups.

Last Saturday, Abu Rateb al-Mazzawi, Ahrar al-Sham's senior commander in Eastern Ghouta suburbs, was killed in an explosive device planted in his car, while Abu Mousa al-Kanakri had escaped an assassination attempt near Damascus, according to activists.

Ahrar commander in Hama countryside was also escaped death before an explosive device exploded in his car.

On the southern battlefront, rebels thwarted on Wednesday an attack launched by regime forces and allied Shiite militias on border district with Jordan.

Southern Front, a key unit in the moderate Free Syrian Army,  has repelled a major attack carried out by forces loyal to Bashar al-Assad on al-Mousaima town in al-Lajat region early Wednesday. Most of regime dead in the clashes were from Iran and Afganistan, according to activists.

Al-Lajat region , an FSA stronghold, has turned into a conflicting area due to its strategic location on the Jordanian border where regime seeks to cut the main supply route for rebels.
