ISIS killed 6 Kurdish Democratic Party fighters in northeastern province of Hasakah on Monday, activists said as Kurds and U.S.-led coalition have been intensifying aerial and ground bombardment to expel the hardline group from the north of war-torn country.
Mahmoud al-Ahmed, activist, told Zaman al-Wasl that the Islamic State fighters had launched a new attack on PYD posts in the eastern countryside of Hasakah, killing 6 militiamen early Monday.
Meanwhile, more reinforcements joined PYD troops in Hasakah to prevent any retreat in favor of the stubborn ISIS that controls swaths of territory in the Kurdish predominantly province.
In turn, the U.S.-led coalition has provided an aerial cover for Kurdish fighters by conducting more air strikes against ISIS on Monday, al-Ahmed said.
