6 rebel factions operating in southern province of Daraa launched new battle aims to capture villages from regime army and its allied Shiite militias on the gates of the capital, a key rebel group said in statement Tuesday.
Alwyat al-Forqan group says rebels plan to take villages link between Daraa, Damascus and Quneitra provinces.
The statement said the battle is in solidarity with rebels of the embattled town of Zabadani, about 45 km (30 miles) northwest of the capital Damascus, as a 70-day-old offensive has no end yet.
Hezbollah militiamen and Bashar al-Assad army have controlled most of Zabadani city after intense aerial bombardments and heavy artillery fire on rebels hideouts.
