Islam Amy fighters have seized control of Tel Kurdi district in the northeastern suburbs of the capital amid intense efforts to liberate detained females from the central prison of Damascus, activists said on Friday.
Jaysh al-Islam, the dominant rebel group in Eastern Ghouta suburbs, said Thursday that the main goal of the attack is to liberate female prisoners from Adra prison, 15 km (10 miles) northeast Damascus.
Islam Amy said in statement that its fighters have captured the buildings surrounding the prison after seizing control of strategic Tel Kurdi district that used to be the industrial and commercial area of damascus before the revolution erupted in March 2011.
Separately, Islam Army's spokesman, Islam Alloush, said Syrian air forces had thwarted Islam Army attack on ISIS in Hajer al-Aswad suburb west of Damascus.
He hinted to coordination between the radical group and the regime army in fight against rebels.
