Two Iran's Revolutionary Guards killed in Aleppo: Fars agency

(Zaman Al Wasl)-Two new members of Iran's elite Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) have been killed in northern countryside of Aleppo, Fars news agency said Wednesday.

Iran's news agency said IRGC Lieutenant Muslim Nasser and an Afghan Khan Ali Yousafi, from Al Mahdi brigade were killed in Aleppo, "In defense of Al al-Bayt, referring to the Prophet Muhammad's dynasty, (Peace be upon him)."

This week, three more IRGC commanders have been killed in Syria, including an ex-bodyguard for Iran's former president, according to the Iranian media.

This is not the first time Iran has announced the death of volunteer members of this brigade. The Iranian parliament rejected a bill last month that would have given nationality to the children of "non-Iranian martyrs."

Iran is the main regional ally of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and has provided military and economic support during Syria's four-year-old civil war.

Sources told Reuters this month that hundreds of troops had arrived since late September to take part in a major ground offensive planned in west and northwest Syria, in the biggest deployment of Iranian forces yet.
