Istanbul/Zaman Al Wasl- In mid-September 2012, Venus, the 17-year old girl, was arrested by the Political Security Branch after her neighbor report to the branch about her activities and her defected father.
Her father defected from the Syrian regime in the beginning of Syrian revolution as he worked in the military security branch and fled to Egypt.
Venus hoped revolution's slogans would be achieved such as the most wanted Freedom. she participated in demonstrations in Midan neighborhood and spraying and graffiti campaigns those were organized by young people in Mezzeh in Damascus.
Venus was preparing her baccalaureate when she was arrested, and suffered of worst kind of humiliation and torture. She told Zaman Al Wasl that her toenails were taken off and the officer deliberately hit her on her them to cause her more pain, when they became infected to blue narcotic marks, they thought she suffered of "gangrene", then she was transferred to al-Mowasat Hospital then after recovery, she was transferred to Adra prison and stayed for a year before being released.
Venus painfully declared that no one of her friends, neighbors and family believed that she was not raped, except her mother, even her father suspected that, because he worked as intelligence officer and knew what happened in detention centers.
Venus left with her mother and sisters to Latakia, the mother’s hometown, but still she was subject to suspicion, and there house there was under surveillance, therefore she left to Turkey with her family
“I regret that our society looks to detained women in a greedy and pity way, and thinks that they would be sort of easy women and can be abused easily, therefore I suffered from annoyance and harassment when I tried to work in a restaurant in Turkey.”
Venus now works in a factory for nylon bags in Istanbul with salary of 700 Turkish Liras.
