(Zaman Al Wasl)- Abdul Basset al Sarout, an icon of the Syrian revolution and vocal supporter, was wounded with his two comrades in northeastern Homs when Nusra Front fighters opened fire on his car on Wednesday, source said.
The source revealed that fighters of Nusra Front and Ahrar al Sham movement had seized the weapons of al Bayyadha Battalion, a rebel group of 80 members led by al Sarout and active in Tell Alhomr and al Staihat battlefronts in the northern countryside of Homs.
Al Sarout new destination will be the Syrian north, sources said since he refused to fight alongside Nusra or ISIS.
Al-Sarout is thought to have survived at least three assassination attempts since revolution erupted in March 2011. He moved from being a famous goalkeeper to be a rebel leader in Homs.
Syrian people kept in mind al-Sarout remarkable canticle when he kissed a murdered 19-year-old protester's bloody head whilst a crowd chanted to the beat of a drum "Sleep easy we will continue the struggle... mothers weep for Syria's youth".
