Nusra Front says it expelled Bayyadha Battalion over links with ISIS in northern Homs

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Nusra Front has expelled al Bayyadha Battalion, a rebel group of 80 members, from northern Homs province because the latter had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group, the Qaeda's Syria wing said in statement.

Nusra fighters seized this week the checkpoints of al Bayyadha Battalion in al Staihat and al Zeitouna villages as well in Alhomr and Ajjoub hills.

Last Wednesday, Nusra Front fighters opened fire on al Bayyadha Battalion's commander, Abdel Basset al Sarout, an icon of the Syrian revolution and vocal supporter. Al Sarourt escaped death as two of his comrades were killed, activists said.

Activists denied Nusra's claim saying al Bayyadha Battalion is a moderate rebel group.

Nusra reiterated on its stand, accusing the battalion of preparing for suicide attacks against its bases as well civilians in the northern countryside of Homs.

Al Sarout new destination will be the Syrian north, sources said since he refused to fight alongside Nusra or ISIS.

Al-Sarout is thought to have survived at least three assassination attempts since revolution erupted in March 2011. He moved from being a famous goalkeeper to be a rebel leader in Homs.
