Rebels mobilize to take army base north Hama: sources

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian rebels to launch an imminent attack on Maan town in the northern countryside of Hama, seeking to take regime's strategic military base after week of advances.

Abu Khaled, An Ajanad al Sham media officer, a rebel group operating under the Army of Conquest, said at least 1000 fighters are ready to Take Maan town and the the army base in a move aims to defend southern countryside of Idlib and to prevent any forthcoming assaults, he added.

Rebels pressed this week more advances northeast Hama province, taking control of Maan's next-door villages of Atshan and Tal Skaik.

Rebel news feeds said more than 150 troopers were killed in the ongoing clashes.

Also, fighters from the Jund al-Aqsa group, backed by other fighters, seized large parts of Morek town in Hama. The town sits north of Hama city on the north-south highway running through Syria's major cities in the mainly regime-held west.

Last Tuesday, rebels seized Tal Othman military base and the nearby village of al Janabra in the western countryside of Hama, activist Mustafa Abu Arab said. The strategic hill was regime's first defense line to secure loyal villages in al Ghab plain.

Social media activists mocked Russian air strikes that have been failed to paralyze rebels advances despite nearly 40 days of bombing.

More than 250,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began with anti-government protests in March 2011.
