Former Damascus U.S. Ambassador to Syria Robert Ford said The
American military strike will not topple Bashar al-Assad but will be a disciplinary
strike what make him more stubborn, Opposition dissident told Zaman Alwasl.
The decision of a military strike was taken in Washington, It is undergoing, ford said in private meeting with opposition coalition member who refused to clarify his name.

Ford believed that such a strike would weaken the influence of
al-Assad and make him accept negotiating Geneva 2, and the peaceful transition
of power, which the coalition member told Ford that Assad will not accept to
negotiate his departure.
The American diplomat called on the Bashar al-Assad regime to end
the fighting and bring about a peaceful solution to the crisis in Syria. “When
we see disturbing photos offering proof that the regime is using mortars and
artillery against residential neighborhoods, all of us become even more
concerned about the tragic outcome for Syrian civilians,” he wrote once on
his FaceBook page.
