10 killed in Russian air strikes on border town with Iraq

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russia's warplanes on Saturday have killed at least 10 civilians, mostly one family members, in air strikes on a border town with Iraq, activists said.

The airstrikes have targeted the Isis-controlled town of al-Bukamal in the eastern Deir Ezzor province, leaving 10 people dead and 50 more wounded.

Russian air force in Syria, which consists of around 50 planes and helicopters with a further 37 aircraft, have carried out around 3500 sorties in Syria since air strikes began on Sep.30, killing more than 1000 people, monitoring groups say.

Syria's war started with a pro-democracy movement that grew into an armed uprising and has inflamed regional confrontations. About 300,000 people have died in the conflict, according to United Nations estimates.
