(Zaman Al Wasl)- Many militias help the Syrian regime in its battles against rebels in the countryside of Latakia like National defense forces (NDF), Baath Brigades, its commander Hossam Khadra was killed in the Battle of al-Anfal in spring last year. However, militia of Soqour ِAl Sahra, or Falcons of Desert- founded late 2013 led by Colonel Mohammed Jaber, is considered one of the most supportive militia for the regime’s army because of the experience and military training and armament they have been given by Iranian expertise because most of military members and officers between 25 and 40 years of age. their number is estimated to many hundreds.
Bashar al-Assad has already issued a decree to organize the work of protection and security private companies in Syria in August 2013, in an attempt to give a legal cover to founding militias fighting alongside the regime, particularly in that time when the regime’s forces suffered of many defeats and most important was the loss of oil and gas wells, which are considered among the most important priorities for the regime.
“Soqour Alsahra” started fighting with the regime’s forces during battles at the Iraqi and Jordanian boarders to protect oil wells situated in the desert, and that was the reason for the militia’s name.
“Soqour Al Sahra” widened their participation with the regime to the coast battle and they helped its forces to regain Kasab town at the border with Turkey, and other military sites in the North countryside of Lattakia when the rebels launched attack on the regime’s forces called “the battle of al-Anfal" last year in order to control the last crossing point for the regime with Turkey, besides other sites the regime lost.
The militia had become the spearhead of the regime in latest battles especially in special tasks and operations planned to advance in the countryside of Latakia, as the regime try to use them and backing of the Russian military aircraft to regain control of the villages in al-Akrad and Turkem mountains.
A report on ANA Russian TV channel showed that militants of Soqour Al Sahraa were well organised and heavily armed, in addition to having individual and medium weapons, moreover, they were provided with rocket launchers model (RBG22), the Russian advanced anti-armor and fortified tanks .
The report also showed a member of the militia carrying a machine gun and shout “For you Ali” which is a reference to obey to Ali bin Abi Talib, signalling that the militia’s members have Shiite sectarian doctrine
Zaman Al Wasl translated the report which said that militia of “Soqour Alsahra” are in an operation in the countryside of Latakia to destroy the bases of terrorists near a mountainous village in the Syrian coast at an altitude of 476 meter above sea.
The reported mentioned that during the advance of Reconnaissance forces of Soqour Alsahra, they found hot points of the terrorists and the seized heavy machine gun, after the forces attacked the sources of enemy’s fire on the nearby hill supported by heavy artillery, then the Syrian army forced the terrorists to retreat and then cut the road which was dominated by the terrorists before.

After destroying the enemy, the brigade’s members returned to their base, then the leaders would analyze the results to use them for the next attack on the terrorists."
