Turkish police arrest 7 Syrians involved in Naji al-Jerf's assassination

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Turkish police on Wednesday have arrested seven Syrian people said they were involved in the assassination of Syrian journalist Naji al-Jerf ten days ago, sources told Zaman al-Wasl.

The Turkish police is due to hold press conference to stand on the crime clues on Thursday.

Al-Jerf was gunned down in Gaziantep on December 27, 2015, the Turkish town where the film maker and journalist lived with his wife and two young daughters after fleeing their war-torn homeland.

Eyewitnesses said a masked gunman shot him twice using a pistol fitted with a silencer before fleeing in an unlicensed vehicle. No one has yet claimed responsibility but suspicion has fallen on ISIS.

Jerf was an active campaigner against the ISIS militants who found opportunity in the uprising he had believed in from the beginning. (With the Independent)
