(Zaman Al Wasl)- People of the key Eastern Ghouta Suburb of Arbin have elected on Wednesday their local council, such a remarkable participation by the residents who defied Syrian regime air strikes, local reporter said.
The voting atmosphere in the embattled town near the capital was encouraging in regard to the solid electoral base, activists said.
The council candidates were not just rebel commanders or activists since the right to stand for elections was opened for all people.
Before Syrian uprising in March 2011, Arbin was the commercial hub of rural Damascus where it was the home of most canned food and furniture factories.
The town has been endured for devastating aerial campaign that turned huge parts of the town to rubble.
