Translation by Yusra Ahmed

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Activists reported mounting cases of abduction and forced disappearance in al-Tal city north of Damascus over blackmailed background.

Abduction reached to teachers, doctors and other civilians, many of them were released after paying a ransom reached to 5 Million Syrian pounds.

Activist Khalid al-Rifai mentioned that members of armed formations in the area took a chance of their power in the region to intimidate people and abduct them.

The activist added that al-Tal town which shelters almost a million people, suffers of hard siege, added to cold and hunger. All that did not stop the armed groups from threatening people under the force of arms, coping the regime’s acts even some times exceeded it, with no supervision or judgment.

The activist mentioned that most abduction cases happened in complete silence by the abductees and their families about the conditions of abduction and the ransoms, which hardens detecting them and finding a solution to the matter.

Al-Rifai mentioned that most cases of abduction can be considered as individual acts by some members of some revolutionary formations, but still that does not clear the commanders’ side because they do not do enough to stop the problem and punish the guilty.

Activist requested cooperation to create a security forces under the supervision of the Free Syrian Army, to protect civilians and prevent carrying arms in public in the city and keep arms outside the city, but that suggestion was rejected by the armed formation accusing the activist of attempting to creating a base for regime's paramilitary National Defence Forces (NDF).
