Damascus: FSA fighters to replace ISIS in Hajer al-Aswad district

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Hundreds of ISIS fighters are expected to be evacuated soon from besieged southern Damascus suburb due to a U.N.-brokered deal that was suspended late December 2015 after the killing of Islam Army's commander Zahran Alloush in Russian air strike.

Zaman al-Wasl sources said the first batch of Free Syrian Army fighters have entered al-Hajer al-Aswad district on Sunday to replace ISIS militants who are expected to leave the area very soon heading al-Raqqa city, Islamic State's de facto capital.

The Syrian authorities agreed to their evacuation in the hope of reasserting control of the strategic area where fighters from other factions are also lodged, only 4 km (2.5 miles) south of central Damascus, according to Reuters.

People of the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp, near al-Hajer al-Aswad, are looking for similar deal to push Nusra Front fighters to leave the camp in order lift the siege.

Regime forces have imposed a suffocating siege of Damascus suburbs that squeezed the flow of food and humanitarian aid.
