Rebels thwart ISIS, regime attacks in rural Aleppo

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russian warplanes staged more raids on rebel-held countryside of Aleppo, killing and wounding dozens on Sunday, local reporter said.

The aerial bombing on Marea town in the northern countryside has killed three people while 14 more have been killed and wounded in cluster bombs attack on al-Saliheen neighborhood, the reporter said.

Since Russia's intervention on Sep.30, to support Bashar al-Assad, regime forces have stepped up offensives in the west and north of the country.

Russian airstrikes have claimed the lives of at least 1,815 civilians in Syria’s opposition-held areas since air strikes began 4 months ago, according to new Syrian Civil Defense Authority statistics.

In their turn, rebels have thwarted regime attack on al-Hersh district in southern countryside, leaving 11 soldiers killed. Rebels have also thwarted ISIS attack on Braghida town in northern countryside.

Also, clashes were reported between ISIS and regime forces near towns of Aisha and Tal Maksoor In eastern Aleppo.

On Saturday, Islamic State fighters killed 4 regime army officers in an attack on Kuweires airbase in northern Aleppo.

State-run media ignored the attack that left four Alawite officers dead, including brigadier general.

Last November, regime forces backed by Russian jets broke the ISIS-siege on Kuweires military airport, such a move was highly celebrated by regime and allies as a crucial victory.

Russian media said the defense of Kweires was symbol of the unbreakable spirit of the Syrian regime soldiers.
