Opposition forces along with roughly 350,000 civilians are in rebel-held areas of the divided city of Aleppo and face the risk of a government siege.

Rebels' local council in Aleppo backed by the Syrian Free police and the Sharia court has formed crisis room to provide and preserve the essential needs of food and fuel in affordable price.

Brita Haji Hussein, Head of the council, told Zaman Al Wasl that the 'Crisis Operation Room' has already taken many procedures in order to secure residents needs, most importantly preventing shifting food and fuel outside the city and forming a body responsible for the supply in Aleppo local council, cooperates with Sharia court and police forces of rebel-held Aleppo.

The operations room started on Sunday by running frequent patrols to prevent breaches and monopolies and catch any attempts of smuggling products outside the city, the operation room would forward the accused and offenders to court and punish them, Haji Hussein added.

In regard to the council’s storage of essential needs, Haji Hussein revealed that the council has spent most of fund to secure the needs for fuel to support bakery and furnaces, hospitals, civil defense and water pumps, but he doubted that the available amount would be enough. Moreover, he mentioned that the flour cannot be stored for long, therefore they have chosen to store wheat instead and would transfer most wheat stores to the city.

The council estimated that 140 tonnes of flour is needed to provide bread for 63 thousand families under the council’s responsibility.

In regard to aid from relief organizations, the head of local council mentioned that they have only words, without any action.

Haji Hussein explained that they have not received any thing yet from the Interim Government and the National Coalition, but the interim government promised to provide fuel from Turkey through a previous contract, and the Support Coordination Unit provides wheat to the council

Haji Hussein has warned of war traders and greedy merchants who will monopolize goods and basic staples.

At least 260,000 Syrian people have been killed since revolution erupted in March 2011 and more than 12 millions have been displaced.
