Syrian regime regains strategic road from ISIS

(Zaman Al Wasl- Reuters)- Syrian regime forces regained control of a key road to the northern city of Aleppo after making advances against ISIS militants Monday, an activist group and state television reported.

Battles continued between government forces and the jihadist group in the area in the southeast of Aleppo province, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Bashar al-Assad's  forces had been relying on the route to reach Aleppo because insurgents control the main highway to the city further west.

ISIS seized the town of Khanaser, which lies on the route 50 km (30 miles) southeast of Aleppo city, last week but government forces regained it two days later.

State TV said Monday further advances allowed Assad forces to regain control of the road and they were now clearing mines.

The regime advances in Aleppo province, helped by Russian airstrikes and allied fighters from Iran and Lebanese Hezbollah, come on the third day of a country-wide cessation of hostilities that excludes ISIS and al Qaeda affiliate Nusra Front.

Also, in Aleppo, rebels and activities of Tariq al-Bab neighborhood have organized a demonstration that recalls back the memories of Syrians' peaceful protests in 2011, chanting the most popular and famous slogan, Ash-shaʻb yurīd isqāṭ an-niẓām "The people want to bring down the regime".

The neighborhood was hit by regime's mortar rounds in one of 49 ceasefire violations across Syria
since the deal took effect three days ago, according to the Syrian Network for Human Rights.
