(Zaman Al Wasl)- At least 29 ISIS-affiliated militants and 7 civilians have been killed in the ongoing clashes between Tunisian army and police with the Islamist militants in Ben Gardane, a town close to the Libyan frontier, on Monday, interior ministry said in statement
The statement assured death of seven civilians due to the clashes that left 29 'terrorists' killed and 6 more arrested while 10 army soldiers and security members were killed.
Pro-ISIS accounts said ISIS early on Monday took control of an army barrack before being expelled by the government forces. The accounts said ISIS seeks to 'liberate' Ben Gardane from army and National Guards forces.
Authorities warned people to stay in their homes as gunfire erupted in the town center. ISIS militants trained in Libya carried out several attacks on Tunisia last year and the government has increased frontier security, Reuters reported.
Basel Tourjman, Tunis-based analyst, said many reports revealed an imminent attack by ISIS on Ben Gardane, such a danger should be faced by declaring the town a military zone and imposing curfew to uproot all ISIS cells, he added.
