Regime helicopters dropped 8 barrel bombs on Jabal al Akrad in Latakia province: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syrian regime’s helicopters on Monday have dropped eight barrel bombs on the ebel-held villages in the coastal Latakia province and in the western countryside of Idlib, local activists said.

The barrel-bomb attacks targeted villages of al-Najiya and Mara’nd, turning many buildings to rubble.

Residents of Jabal a-Al Krad region in the coastal Latakia province said regime had never respected the ‘cessation of hostilities' ceasefire deal as daily violations are being recorded.

Meanwhile, Russia on Monday warned the United States that it will start responding to ceasefire violations in Syria unilaterally starting on Tuesday if Washington refuses to coordinate rules of engagement against the violators.

The Russian military has accused the US of dragging its feet on responding to Moscow’s proposals on joint monitoring of a Syria ceasefire.

A top Russian general said on the weekend that further delays are leading to civilian casualties, like in Aleppo where 67 civilians reportedly have been killed by militant fire since the truce started.

The Russian- and U.S.-brokered ceasefire that began on February 27 has helped significantly reduce hostilities. The ISIS group and the Al Qaeda-linked Jabhat Al Nusra have been excluded from the truce.

Russian president Vladimir Putin last week recalled some of Russian warplanes from Syria, but said the action against ISIL and Jabhat Al Nusra will continue.

The Syrian Centre for Policy Research (SCPR) said at least 400,000 people have been killed since revolution erupted in March 2011. (With agencies)
