(Zaman Al Wasl)- A key rebel group that controls Bab al Salama border crossing with Turkey has appointed Qasem Qasem, defected police officer, as director for the crossing, sources said Sunday.
The colonel, who defected the interior ministry in July 2012, was appointed by al-Shamiyeh Front due to his 10-year expertise as head of Bab al Salama border crossing in Aleppo province.
In the next door province of Idlib, at least five civilians were killed in a car bomb attack targeted the border town of Sarmada, activists said on Sunday.
The blast has also left 9 people wounded in the strategic town near Bab al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.
No rebel group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
