Nusra Front attacks regime barracks east of Hama: activists

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Syria's al Qaeda branch, the Nusra Front carried out a surprise attack on regime barracks in Khanayfes village near al-Salamiya southeastern Hama province, media activists said Monday.

Homs Media Center stated that al-Nusra Front fighters infiltrated to the stronghold and killed all soldiers there including fighters in the National Defense.

Filed sources said the al-Nusra’s operation was dangerous and surprising because the regime stronghold is central to Assad forces in Khanayfes area. They killed all soldiers there and took over weapons and munitions.

Al-Nusra fighters also destroyed a car with 14.5 gun, a tank, and munitions car. They took over light and heavy weapons and killing one leader in the National Defense militia. They withdrew from the site without any injured in their ranks.

Khanayfes village under control of the regime is located in the south east of Hama City with 40 Kilometers distance and lies 10 kilometers away from al-Salamiya City to the south. Administratively, it is a subordinate of al-Salamiye located in the middle of al-Salamiye-Homs road.

Al-Nusra and rebel factions depend on sudden and fast operations in the southern countryside of Hama following regime forces and its militia storming several villages in the area to perform a blockade on the rest of neighboring northern countryside of Homs resulting in blocking all roads to northern countryside of Homs.
