YPG seeks to shut strategic Kastilo road to encircle rebels in Aleppo

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The Kurdish Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) killed Tuesday at least one civilian and injured several by snipers’ bullets from the militia positioned in al-Sheikh Maqsood neighborhood in Aleppo today in an attempt to cut the road of Kastilo, the sole passage to the city of Aleppo.

Zaman al-Wasl correspondent said the YPG militia started targeting entrance of Aleppo city since Monday mid-night with mortar and artillery shells in conjunction with their attempts to advance towards Kastilo road which is considered central to life in the city and the last road connecting the countryside of Aleppo to the city. Meanwhile, regime forces positioned in al-Ashrafiye targeted rebel locations with mortars.

The correspondent added the rebel factions launched a counter attack today on Kurdish militias locations to recapture lost sites and to secure the road cut by Kurdish militias PYD which positioned snipers on the road.

In the southern countryside of Aleppo, warplanes launched several air strikes on rebel locations yesterday in al-‘ayas and al-Zarba towns while regime forces and pro-regime militias tried to advance in the area. Rebels confronted the attacks and inflicted losses in the regime ranks.

Likewise, al-Hawr Operation room announced taking control over Tell Ahmar town adjacent to strategic al-Raa’I town following battels with Isis. Other violent clashes are taking place around al-Raa’I, the most important Isis stronghold in the northern countryside and connecting complex between northern and eastern countryside of Aleppo which rebels are advancing towards following big advances achieved this week by taking control over tens of villages and towns in the region.

In the southern countryside of Aleppo,  Nusra Front fighters shot down a war plane on Tuesday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Reuters reported that a plume of smoke was seen as the plane caught fire before it fell in the Talat al-Iss highland where al-Qaeda affiliated rebels have come under heavy bombardment by Syrian and Russian jets after they captured the area this week.

The fate of the pilot was not known, the British-based monitor said.
