Russia brings more attack helicopters to Latakia's Hmeymim airbase

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Russia has increased its military presence in Hmeymim air base with attack helicopters deployed for night operations and complicated weather conditions in the last few days, close source to regime said.

The source refused to disclose his name said new Russian deployed Mi-28 Night Hunter helicopters, Alligator Kamov-52, and advanced Mi-35 Combat helicopters.
The number of new deployed combat helicopters is likely 12 helicopters, 4 of each type. They are equipped with advanced technologies and long-scale directed missiles. Russian pilots who arrived recently in Hemeymim airport will fly the helicopters, the source said.

The role of these combat helicopters is to protect the Russian Task Force deployed to Hmeymim air base, near Latakia, and Salma and Jureen Russian camps, in addition to protect Russian force in al-Shu’erat and Tayfur Airports.

Russia withdrew combat planes from Syria, but were replaced with newly arrived Kamov-52 and Mi-28. The first footage of Kamov-52 was released on April.3 and it was claimed the Russian combat helicopters were supporting the Syrian forces in the outskirts of Homs.
