(Zaman Al Wasl)- A military source considered that regime played Islamic State in Palmyra under Russian pressure to recapture historical city after 10 months of Isis control over the city. The source said Russia wanted to polish its presence in Syria in front of the International Community.
The surprise Isis attack on Dumeir and al-Seen airports on Sunday following two big defeats in Palmyra and al-Qaryateen pushed Isis fighters to flee south to Dumeir and north to al-Sukhneh.
The source- a military dissident pilot- said Isis and regime flirting has come to an end regardless of the good economic relations between them in oil and petroleum fields which Isis controls most of them beside grain storages in al-Jazira.
The source-refused to disclose his name-demonstrated Isis fighters’ deployment around strategic airports. The regime besieges Deir ez-Zor airport since two years after recapturing it from Free Syrian Army (FSA) in 2014. Isis fighters centralize on different depths from the airport without any land supplies for the regime since the play of the fall of al-Tabaqa military airport in August 2014. Source said Isis attempts to storm the airport were useless and hence they were just performed acts.
Isis also is deployed around T-Four airport with angle of 270 degrees and different depths reaching 5 kilometers. Isis controlled the area for long until the regime military operation with air force coverage at the start of March which enabled regime to recapture Palmyra.
Isis fighters are still deployed adjacent to al-Nasiriye airport with 10 kilometers of distance in Mahseh area. Isis can perform direct attacks on the airport, the source added.
Isis controlled areas around al-Seen airport since 2015. Al-Seen airport is the most powerful in the Syrian Airforce. Isis controls all roads connecting the airport. There was no record of any attack on al-Seen airport by Isis except for last Sunday, according to the source.
The military source pointed out that Isis fighters are still deployed around al-Dumeir airport from west, south and east starting from 7 kilometers from the airport and in Tulul al-Safa in the south, the Isis stronghold which is 27 kilometers from al-Dumeir airport center and Isis is deployed around the 16 military barracks south of the airport and reaching al-Hayjaneh to the south.
In Swaida, Isis centralizes around Khalkhaleh airport north of the governorate and occupies hills east of the airport like Tall Ashheeb, Tulul Salman, Tulul al-Fideen, and Tall Asfar and in the north in the direction of al-Hayjaneh and Beer Qasab near Damascus International Airport and adjacent on the thermal station which Isis occupied on Saturday.
The source said the Isis deployment explains the power in which Isis attacked on al-Seen and Dumeir airports where Isis troops were deployed months ago with regime knowledge, but neither regime nor Isis attacked one another unless for small clashes.
