Hama: six people injured in rally for parliamentary election

(Zaman Al Wasl) - At least 6 civilians have been injured due to stray bullets in rally set for planned parliamentary elections in the city of Hama, activists told Zaman al-Wasl.

Activist Suhail al-Hamwi mentioned that some persons have shot fire recklessly while they were drunk from balconies, in roads and inside regime-controlled residential neighborhoods.

The activists mentioned that most candidates’ names are from intelligence and security forces of the Syrian regime, and they operate their election campaign by force as they threaten people of depriving them of gas and fuel if they refused to participate in campaigns’ activities.

Al-Hamwi added that candidates have not presented any plan or future promises in their campaigns, as tents meant to be for promoting the campaign and increasing the possibility of electing particular candidates, they turned up to become like places for family celebrations or places for dancing and drinking alcohol for security members who put-on songs glorifying Bashar al-Assad and the army, besides reckless shooting from balconies, which brings fear and stress to residents of the city.

Rose, media activist from Hama confirmed that regime’s barriers over the city are warning people that they are going to check their hands during elections to see the ink which confirm their participation in election, otherwise they could face arresting and detention.

Abo Khalid, one of the residents reported to Zaman Al Wasl that most candidates are from the city’s “Shabiha” and organised gangs of looting, theft and abduction in Hama, therefore they would become responsible in the parliament in they win which would cover their crimes.

Abo Khalid added that other candidates of civilians are too few, and most of them from villages loyal to the Syrian regime or employees in governmental institutions
