Kurdish PYD militia brings in new recruits as fight with Isis continues

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD) launched major campaign in the last two days to arrest young men in countryside of Hasaka province to recruit them in the fight against Isis.

Activist Mahmoud al-Ahmad said that military discipline groups affiliated with PYD self-administration arrested around 250 young man in Qamishli and will transport them PYD run camps in Hasaka countryside.

Al-Ahmad told Zaman al-Wasl that the 250 arrested young men might be transported to Tall Adas Camp in Malkiye along with tens of young men who were arrested in Ras al-Ayn area. The first round of recruited young men by force on 5 April, they are being distributed on fighting fronts against Isis in Hasaka and Raqqa. Al-Ahmad said this is contrary to what the self-administration had promised the families of the recruited that they will be deployed in checkpoints away from clashes with Isis.

Al-Ahmad added that military police and traffic police affiliated with PYD had stormed the market south of Qamishli and confiscated motorcycles under the pretext they were not registered with them.

PYD had started in October2014 to arrest young men in areas under its control to implement a PYD decree saying every young man between 18 and 30 years is to be recruited in the fight against Isis following a 45-day camp before the recruited are sent to the fronts for 9 months. Many were killed and injured.

In another context, PYD checkpoints has imposed a fee of 1000 Dollars on non-Syrian cars. Checkpoints numbers have lessened in the center of al-Shadadi and adjacent villages especially Um Zir andal-Bahsa in the northern front, according to local sources.

The sources said the clashes lines witnessed a careful calmness between Isis and PYD forces. Clashes lines settled from the southern east near villages of Tall Jaber near Iraqi borders, and from the south near villages of Kashkash Ziyanat and Kashkash Jabur, and from western south in which PYD had advanced towards road of Rwayshid village in the northern countryside of Deir ez-Zor.

US backed SDF alliance recaptured strategic al-Shadadi and al-Arysha in late February via a military campaign and it was very important battle for SDF alliance since its formation in October 2015 from militias affiliated with PYD and self-administration. United States backed the alliance and provided them with weapons.
