Tension rises between Kurdish Democratic Union and allies in Raqqa

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Tensions increased between Kurdish Democratic Party (PYD) and its allies due to PYD encouraging personnel from Raqqa Rebel Brigade to defect and join PYD military ranks directly. The step is the first by PYD to disperse allied forces in Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).

Activist Luai al-Hasan told Zaman al-Wasl that PYD is trying to draw SDF factions to its ranks starting from Tall Abyad. He stressed that among SDF factions, there are pro-regime groups and are provided by logistical and financial support by regime.

Al-Hasan added that a group of 8 personnel defected of Raqqa Rebel Brigade and is fighting on al-Sharkarak front under the name Raqqa Martyrs with Peoples’ Protection Units (YPG) army wing of PYD. PYD controls all military operations and no military group can work alone.

Military sources in north of Raqqa told Zaman al-Wasl that the group defected with encouragement from PYD following punishing and detaining the group for 45 days since the group committed crimes. Head of the group, Abu Saif Alif went to YPG because the brigade exempted him from all missions assigned to him and was under house arrest with 7 personnel.

The same sources said Abu Hamza the coordinator between Raqqa Rebel Brigade and PYD joined Yousef group and he is one of the expelled from Raqqa Rebel Brigade on the ground of conspiring and communicating with Ali Mamluk and other officers in the regime military in Deir ez-Zor and Hasaka.

The sources denounced PYD accepting expelled personnel under charges of theft and other crimes in its ranks.

US backed SDF alliance recaptured strategic al-Shadadi and al-Arysha in late February via a military campaign and it was very important battle for SDF alliance since its formation in October 2015 from militias affiliated with PYD and self-administration. United States backed the alliance and provided them with weapons.
