Turkmen in Latakia fight for their existence: Head of Turkmen Council

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Head of the Syrian Turkmen Council Abdul Rahman Mustafa warned of the plight of the Turkmen regions especially in Turkmen mountain in Latakia province, stressing that the Turkmen war is one of existence.

Mustafa told Zaman al-Wasl that there are no more civilians in Turkmen mountain except for al-Bujaq area and it is under regime control and rebel factions are fighting in the mountain.

Mustafa who is participating in the advisory board in opposition delegate said, “the last batch of civilians exited the area towards al-Yameediye Camp in Turkey and the number of civilians was nearly 25 thousand. The total number of displaced is approximately one hundred thousand.”

He added the rebel factions control 5 villages out of 70. Regime controls most of the area and families are being forcibly displaced due to regime shelling regardless of the announced ceasefire.

“The forced displacement that is happening in Turkmen mountain is related to what is happening in north of Syria. The plan B was to divide Syria that is why Turkmen mountain locals are being forcibly displaced from the mountain as well as from areas north of Aleppo. Our battle is one of existence and we are fighting the regime and PYD Kurdish militias. If we lose, the regime will displace us as it did in Hama and Homs and as PYD did in Raqqa and Tall Abyad where he forcibly displaced local population. The Turkmen are in grave danger,” he explained to Zaman al-Wasl.
