(Zaman Al Wasl)- Ten Islamist factions launched Monday a new battle against regime forces in the coastal Latakia province, seeking to regain ground they lost early this year.
The rebel groups, in statement posted online, said they formed a command room to deter regime attacks on rebel-held areas in Latakia countryside, adding the battle of 'Rad al-Mzalem' is due to hit regime checkpoints and bastions that target civilians by its shelling.
The operation room included Islamic Ahrar Alsham movement, Islam Army, Failaq al-Sham, Ansar al-Islam battalions, Sham al-Islam movement, naser Army, Alezza Army, Mojahidin Army, the North troup, the first Coastal troupe.
As part of the battle, the armed formation started shelling the regime’s bases in Tibat Abo Ali in Turkmen mountain, Shalaf castle, Kinsibba, Nahshaba, Ghazalah mountain, and the two hills of Rash and Hadada in the Kurds mountain.
According to Salma media centre, the opposition forces have controlled the town of Nahshaba, Malik hill after clashes between both sides resulted in killing 13 members of the regime among them colonel Hasan Mayhoob from the Marin forces. The clashed in Kurds mountain coincided with mortar shelling reached to regime’s sites in the other hill, while warplane have raided the rebels’ bases in Kurds and Turkmen mountains.
Activist Abdul Rahman Lazqani reported to Zaman Al Wasl that opposition’s forces have liberated the village of Mazighli, while 20 members of regime’s militias were killed.
Lazqani mentioned that the opposition forces have destroyed a submachine cannon size 14.5 mm, with a "Tow" rocket in the village of Ain Kantara and another one size 130mm in Jabal Ghazalah mountain.
Moreover, local sources in the West countryside of Hama revealed that Islamic battalions, one of them Jund al-Aqsa have started a wide battle against the regime forces and militias in the village of Kharbit Naqous in al-Ghab field. Where 100 members of the regime forces were killed.
