Homs: al-Waer negotiations committee demands release of all detainees

(Zaman Al Wasl)- The negotiations committee of the al-Waer neighborhood in Homs city has refused regime's offer to free 300 detainees, demanding release of 1500 people held in Sednaya military prison, source said Monday.

A U.N.-mediated deal reached last December stated that all detainees of al-Waer should be freed, such a request was deliberately ignored by regime officials.

Regime forces said the will only free 300 detainees if rebels agreed to leave al-Waer.

Al-Waer's negotiations committee said they were trying to release 7350 detainees and not only 1500.

Residents of al-Waer went to street several times demanding their relative freedom.

Last December when 300 fighters together with 400 members of their families, left al-Waer, the last rebel-held area of Homs as part of the rare local ceasefire.

The fighters and their families were being moved to rebel-held areas of the northwest near the Turkish border.

The U.N.-brokered ceasefire stated that food, fuel and many siege restrictions must be lifted.

The Syrian Centre for Policy Research (SCPR) said at least 400,000 people have been killed since revolution erupted in March 2011.
