The Sharia Court in Homs province gave prominent rebel commander Abdul Baset al-Sarout a week's notice to surrender himself to one of Islamic courts, otherwise will be sentenced in absentia over fighting with the Islamic State.
The notice stated, “following review of the lawsuit no 246/2016 and after the allegation of Sharia public prosecution against al-Sarout; the commander of the Shuhada al-Bayada rebel group in joining ranks of Islamic State and committing crimes in favor of Isis.”
Al-Sarout is considered a well-known icon in the Syrian revolution and former commander of Shuhada'a al-Bayada rebel group which came into conflict with al-Nusra Front following a claim he pledged allegiance to Isis.
