Hama: residents complain mounting abuses of NDF in western countryside

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Resentment and fury have reached momentum in government-held areas of Hama province due to countless abuses of pro-regime paramilitary group, security source told Zaman al-Wasl on Tuesday.

Residents of the predominantly Alawite villages in the western countryside say NDF militants are tightening the noose on their daily lives, taking advantage of the unrestricted power and merits granted by the regime.

Local activists say NDF fighters are interfering in everything even in marriage and divorce cases.

NDF has also carried out number of arbitrary arrests against the villagers without a permit from regime security, they added.

Residents who once demanded regime to let NDF controlling their areas, are now demanding Hama Governor and the province security leadership to hand the security to regime and its security services to restrain the militia.

Free Syrian Army (FSA) leader in Hama countryside Abu Mohamed explained the relative calmness after the ceasefire reflected badly on pro-regime areas.

Before, NDF militia were busy fighting the rebels, but now they are fighting each other. NDF leaderships supported different persons during parliament elections which led to big tensions between families heading NDF in Hama countryside.

Regime forces and NDF countered al-Nusra Front led attacks to regain positions lost to regime and NDF in hills of Latakia province on Wednesday.

NDF was formed in 2012 and organized by regime as a volunteer reserve component of the Syrian military and it incorporates local pro-regime volunteers and Shabiha forces.
