Mohamed finds no fund for prosthetic arm, no hope for better life in Turkey

(Zaman Al Wasl)- In a place lacks to minimum living conditions, Mohamed Masri, a young man from Idlib lives, recalling painful memories about the frightening experience he had in his home city, which resulted in amputating his right hand, and severely injuries in his left leg beside amputating his sister’s leg after being hit with a interstitial rocket.

After 4 years of displacement, Mohamed returned to Idlib when it was liberated, to work with his sister in helping and rescuing injured people. However, while he and his sister were doing their duties, an interstitial rocket hit the city centre in Idlib in April 12, 2015, resulted in separating his right arm and his left leg was severely injured, moreover, his sister was injured and her leg was amputated as well.

 They were taken to the Red Crescent for treatment, then they were referred to Saraqib hospital to get transferred to Bab Alhawa hospital where he and his sister had operations.

According to his story, he was discharged from hospital before full recovery and complete healing of his wounds, which caused him complications and infections later, especially with the difficult conditions they live in which were not clean enough to help in healing.

The difficult living conditions he suffers with his wife and 4 children and lack of care by the aid and relief agencies have re-incited the pain and the tragedy he had witnessed. As no relief agency was able to cover the cost of smart arm he needs.

Mohamed left to Turkey to Urfa camp, and he had 5 operations done in Urfa hospital, then he moved to
Reyhanlı city where he live now with his wife and 4 children.

Mohamed revealed that he had visited many doctors and expert and advised that he needs a smart prosthetic arm but he was told that it was too expensive and not affordable by any of the aid agencies.

Statistics estimated that approximately 25 thousand people have lost one limb due to explosions and shelling. In Turkey, figures detailed that 98% of people with amputations resulted from incidents most of them under 50, while only 2% were due to disease.
