Displaced camps damaged in Latakia countryside due to torrential rain

(Zaman Al Wasl)- Torrential rain have hit the countryside of Latakia on Friday morning caused serious destruction for the already worn out tents in the temporary camp of displaced residents who left their villages after controlling them by regime forces with the help of Russian air strikes.

Heavy rain over the night led to collection of water in the camp square and torrents entered the tents causing serious damage of luggage.

Swamps prevented transportation and hardened movement and delivering aid.
Abdul Jabar Khalil, manager of Camps of the Countryside of Latakia mentioned that unexpected heavy rain have bathed people luggage and clothes and their worn out tents were not able to protect them.

Moreover, according to the manager, rain has damaged stored food and other clothes and stuff of people who stayed outdoor because of shortage of tents.

Correspondent of Latakia Media Network, Mohammed Naji that many centres of civil defense have tried to help affected people who appealed to the opposition institutions to provide them with tents and essential services and infrastructure to protect them from mud when it rains.

Heavy rain have fallen over the night till Friday afternoon, accompanied with low temperature in the coastal region.

Dozens of camps spread in many villages of the countryside of Latakia an Idlib to shelter displaced people from villages of Jabal al-Akrad and Jabal al-Turkmen after controlling most their villages by the Syrian regime with cover of Russian air strikes.

Several charitable institution have helped in securing some needs of displaced people, but they were not enough, especially they have not considered that it could rain heavily again this year.
